A Message from Newsletter Editor Linda Waldbaum

When we think of family, we think of a group of people who share a common tie to one another and depend on each other for support. Our union family is the epitome of this definition. We are tied to each other through our working relationship, and we are always there for each other in times of need.
Earlier this month, members of our union family were asked to donate a sick day to our fellow member Debbie Daring who is out on an extended medical leave. In fewer than two days, we had nearly 100 members donate one day so that Debbie would have enough sick days to use for the remainder of the year. In fact, most of those who donated actually wanted to contribute more than one day. Unsurprisingly, many of those who donated did not even know Debbie personally but realized the importance of helping out a PFT family member in need. Thankfully, at the conclusion of this school year, Debbie will qualify for a full retirement from NYSTRS.

This act of solidarity is a reminder of how special it is to be part of the PFT. We may not always see eye to eye, but we stand by each other through thick and thin. The strength of our union can easily be seen in our contract. However, the humanity demonstrated by the outpouring of generosity towards a fellow union member is another reminder of just how incredible it is to be a part of the Plainedge Federation of Teachers.

Debbie would like to thank all PFT members for their love, generosity, and support during this difficult time.
